Technical extruded parts – the clever alternative to conventional manufacturing processes
Hardly any other manufacturing process is as little known as aluminum extrusion. Yet it is an attractive alternative to turning, die casting, deep drawing or stamping of cast, iron or aluminum components. Especially in today's world, developers are looking for ways to produce components with less material, more precision and strength, and at lower cost. Impact extrusion technology offers interesting solutions.
Impact extrusion presses achieve a considerable improvement in the technical performance and cost-effectiveness of components:
Precise fit and function. This is particularly important for moving components such as bearings or gears, seals and connecting elements, high-precision devices in medicine and mechanical engineering. High dimensional and shape accuracy (near net shape production) = ready-to-install components with little or no reworking.
Precisely manufactured parts often have very good surface roughness values. This can reduce friction and increase service life. Scale-free surface with very good roughness values. Roughness depths (Rz) of 5 to 20 µm can be achieved.
Precise shaping allows components to withstand higher loads. In the case of cold extruded parts, for example, the fiber flow remains unbroken, which increases the load-bearing capacity. The contour-parallel fiber flow and work hardening during forming increase the strength.
High dimensional and shape accuracy ensure consistent quality and function of the components over large quantities as well as a high level of tightness. Extruded housings, cups and sleeves are free of cavities and inclusions and are absolutely leak-proof.
Precise components enable optimum noise and rolling behavior, which increases the efficiency and service life of machines. Depending on the component shape and size, tolerances in the range of +/- 0.025 mm can be pressed to finished dimensions.
In many cases, precise shaping can save material and thus reduce production costs. Compared to some machining processes, the production time can be significantly reduced. Savings in raw materials and production time guarantee a short amortization period for impact extrusion tools, CNC clamping devices and cheaper components.
